Visualizing the decline in Community Banking
Our client contacted Articulate Ventures looking for a creative way to communicate what has been lost in their ecosystem as larger banking institutions capured their market share. It's one thing to say that over the last 20 years, local bank deposits in St. Louis declined from 66% to 14%, but it's another to visually demonstrate this change happening in a way that prompts the viewer to consider what else has been lost along the way. It takes a visual to make a stronger statement.
What we did
We created a 2 minute 'Bar Chart Race' that clearly communicated the problem statement that St. Louis Bank wanted to make clear to new and existing customers and well as internal employees.
The Data: We Scraped 20+ years of market share data on banks in the St. Louis region from the FDIC. Something that would take hours to export manually.
The Delivery: A simple and compelling data visualization that shows the decline in local banking over 2 decades in St. Louis with accurate financial data pulled from the FDIC.
